Hoffen wir, daß durch diesen Vorfall weitere Terroranschläge in Spanien, und wenn auch nur vorerste, abgewendet wurden. Es spricht sehr viel dafür, daß die Terroristen noch weitere Anschläge in Spanien geplant hatten.

Ja leider sieht es wohl so aus das die Terroristen Spanien als "schwache" Stelle sehen und viele Schläfer sich in Spanien aufhalten bzw. zu Anschlägen bereithalten.
Leider sind weitere Anschläge zu befürchten.

Terrorists can't be bought off - as Spain discovers

It is worth taking a moment to consider what might have happened but for the attentiveness of Spain's Civil Guards, who yesterday removed a bomb from an AVE train between Madrid and Seville. Today's newspapers might have been filled with the story of a new carnage, photographs of more weeping relatives, renewed commitments by politicians that such things must never happen again.

This is a grim conclusion to reach and, not surprisingly, people are periodically tempted to think that they can somehow remove the threat. Spain collectively made such a decision 72 hours after the Madrid bombs, when it voted, in effect, to pull out of the coalition in Iraq.

It would not be entirely fair to say that Spain voted for appeasement - many Spaniards wanted a change anyway, others were angry at what they thought was a government cover-up - but at least some had made the calculation that, by turfing out Jose Maria Aznar's Atlanticist regime, they would make themselves less of a target.

Such an attitude, as has been widely observed inside and outside Spain, is morally wrong. Equally, though, it is intellectually wrong.

But governments do not need to respond this way. The Italians did not seek to negotiate with the Red Brigades, nor the Germans with the Baader-Meinhof gang. Indeed, to their credit, the Spanish had traditionally insisted on finding a security rather than a political solution to Eta violence. Though it pains us to say so, the election of March 14 is as much an encouragement to Eta as to al-Qa'eda: they have seen, as have republican and loyalist paramilitaries in this country, that terrorism sometimes works.
Better by far to have replied, with Kipling: "We never pay anyone Dane-geld, no matter how trifling the cost; for the end of that game is oppression and shame, and the nation that plays it is lost!"

Spain 'was warned of more attacks'

An Islamic terror group linked to al-Qa'eda warned Spain after the Madrid train bombings that it would come under fresh attack unless its troops were withdrawn from Iraq and Afghanistan within four weeks.

A Spanish diplomat confirmed last night that a letter signed by the Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades, warning of further attacks on Spanish interests in North Africa and the southern Mediterranean, was sent to the country's embassy in Cairo.

New trial mounts against cleric

Indonesian police will bring suspected Jemaah Islamiah spiritual leader Abu Bakar Bashir in for questioning next week as officials continue to look at mounting a fresh terrorism trial against him.

The fiery Islamic cleric is due to be released from his Jakarta jail on April 30 after an appeal to Indonesia's highest court last month halved his three year sentence for forgery and immigration offences.

Islamic fundamentalists burned a Union flag and chanted the name of Osama bin Laden yesterday in defiance of the vast majority of mosques, which backed calls for Muslims to co-operate in the fight against terrorism.

Italian cops detain 106 militant suspects

ROME: Italian police detained more than 100 people suspected of having links to Muslim militants in co-ordinated swoops across the country on Friday, an interior ministry spokesman said.

Working with the secret service, police detained 106 people, most of them Moroccan immigrants. Fifteen of those held were to be deported because their papers were not in order, the spokesman said.

USA verstärken wegen Terror Druck auf Pakistan

Die USA drängen Pakistan, härter gegen Terrorverdächtige vorzugehen. Die Regierung in Islamabad reagiert empört.

Zwischen den USA und ihrem Verbündeten Pakistan gibt es Streit über die Terrorbekämpfung. Der amerikanische Botschafter für Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad warf der Regierung in Islamabad vor, nicht entschlossen genug nach Al-Qaeda-Mitglieder zu fahnden, die nahe der afghanischen Grenze vermutet werden.
«Wir haben der pakistanischen Regierung gesagt, dass sie dieses Problem lösen muss oder wir werden das selbst tun», so Khalilzad in Washington. Anders könne sich die Lage im Süden und Osten Afghanistans nicht stabilisieren.
Pakistan wehrte sich gegen die Vorhaltungen. Das Verhalten der USA sei «ungerechtfertigt und unerbeten», zitiert die Nachrichtenagentur AP einen Sprecher des Außenministeriums.........

Eavesdropping by U.S. agency led to arrests of terrorist suspects: report

Terror group warns Spain on U.S. support

They say they think about avoiding more terrorist attacks, leaving the new government's motive for a possible pullout uncomfortably out of line with views on the street. Pak offers Al Qaeda fugitives safe passage

Al-Qaeda fighters hiding among the unruly tribes of Pakistan along the rugged Afghan border have reportedly been offered "safe passage" by the Governor of the country's North-West Frontier Province (NWFP), Syed Iftikhar Hussain.

MADRID BOMB ATTACKS FUNDED BY PALMA DRUGS DEAL

THE money used to fund the March 11 massacre in Madrid was raised from drug deals carried out in Palma and Ibiza just a week before the attacks.
The police investigation into the Madrid attacks and subsequent incidents has discovered that Jamal Ahmidan, alias “El Chino” and the second in command to Serhane ben Abdelmajid, the terrorist commander in charge of the Madrid attacks, travelled to Palma and Ibiza on March 7. Police have managed to trace the movements of El Chino and many of the other bombing suspects by studying their mobile phone cards, and El Chino, made calls on March 7 from the Balearics.

Teenager faces first charge over UK bomb raids

British police have charged one of nine men detained in a series of anti-terrorism raids last week in connection with an apparent plot to build a powerful bomb.

The 17-year-old has been charged with conspiracy to cause "an explosion of a nature likely to endanger life or cause serious damage to property".

Nine men aged 17 to 32, all British citizens who are reportedly mostly of Pakistani descent, were taken into custody last week when 700 police raided 24 locations in and around London. None of the other eight has been charged.

An Arabic-language jihadi website posted a message purporting to be "al-Qaida’s plan of economic attack" on the U.S. that included setting forest fires, according to the Northeast Intelligence Network.

The six-point plan appeared Saturday and called for:

- attacks on the assets of large American companies all over the world;
- attacks on U.S. oil refineries;
- attacks on civilian airports with the goal of financially devastating U.S. airlines;
- deliberate pollution of food system;
- setting of fires in the forests – "especially those that provide the American market with the raw materials for the wood and paper and byproducts industries";
- attacks like those on the railway transportation lines in Spain;
