MARLIN AUSV to Be Delivered to Turkish Navy
MARLIN AUSV, jointly developed by ASELSAN and SEFİNE, will be delivered to the Turkish Navy in the following months.
SEFİNE Naval Projects Senior Technical Purchasing Engineer Burak Kolsuz, who spoke to Anadolu Agency during the Nusret-2023 Invitation Exercise, stated that MARLIN AUSV will be delivered to the Turkish Navy in the coming months.
Burak Kolsuz added that MARLIN can be configured in mine warfare and anti-air warfare configurations in addition to already revealed ASuW and ASW configurations.
MARLIN made its official debut on the field in electronic warfare configuration during a NATO exercise in 2022. This was followed by a test of TUBITAK SAGE’s KUZGUN-KY solid fuel rocket-powered surface-to-surface missile planned to be one of MARLIN’s main ASuW assets.
MIR AUSV, a related development from the same joint venture, also fired a lightweight torpedo from the launcher developed by ASELSAN.

Turkiye’s Indigenous Torpedo Akya is Operational
Turkiye’s first indigenous heavy-weight torpedo, Akya, is now operational after its test launch with a live warhead.
Turkish Defence Ministry announced last week that the fire tests would occur on December 26th. The tests were postponed for a day and took place on the 27th. The Ministry announced on social media that an Akya heavy-weight torpedo was launched from the TCG Preveze (S-353) submarine. The Ministry stated that Akya hit the target vessel (ex-TCG Gazal, ex-USS Sioux) and destroyed it. This statement and a photo with the “Akya harp” notice mark that the torpedo had a live warhead. “Harp” is a Turkish word for “war”.

New naval platforms will be accepted into the service with the ceremony on the 19th of January, as TurDef wrote exclusively.
TCG İstanbul (F 515) frigate, TCG Derya (A 1590), TCG Arif Ekmekçi (A 575) logistic support ship and Marlin USV will be accepted into Turkish Navy service with a ceremony to be held in Yalova. On January 19, Turkey's first-in-class frigate TCG Istanbul entered into service with the country's Navy during a ceremony held at Sefine Shipyard in Yalova Province, northwest Turkey. The introduction of the vessel marks a significant moment for the country, given that it constitutes Turkey's first nationally-developed frigate. This also comes amid a relatively remarkable modernization effort based on locally sourced hardware that spans the services within Turkey's armed forces in recent years.
The Istanbul class is designed to perform a wide range of missions for the Turkish Navy, including everything from surveillance to anti-surface, anti-air, and anti-submarine warfare. What's most notable about TCG Istanbul in particular is its high percentage of indigenously built components, particularly in terms of its armament and electronic warfare and sensor suites. In all, some 220 Turkish companies participated in constructing the frigate, which included 80 subcontractors working on the delivery of more than 150 systems, Naval News reports.
