Iran to Unveil New Cruise Missile

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi announced on Friday that Tehran would soon unveil a new cruise missile called 'Zafar (Triumph).

"We unveiled the Qader cruise missiles in the Week of Sacred Defense and we plan to showcase Zafar which is a new cruise missile in the near future," Vahidi told reporters in the Western city of Hamedan today.

"We also have other plans in area of ballistic missiles which will be unveiled once their production phases are complete," he added

'Revolutionary Guards commander killed in Iran blast'

A senior Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander in charge of the force's self-sufficiency unit was killed in a blast at a military base near Tehran Saturday, semi-official Fars news agency reported. A mysterious and massive explosion rocked the military arms depot near Tehran, killing 17 Revolutionary Guards Corps officers and wounding 17 others.

Iranian officials said the blast was caused by an accident as soldiers moved munitions at the base in Bidganeh, near Shahriar, 45 km. west of the Iranian capital. The base is also believed to be the storage center for some of Iran’s most-advanced long-range ballistic missiles, such as the Shahab 3.

17 killed in massive explosions at munitions depot near Tehran
TEHRAN, Nov. 12 (MNA) -- Seventeen personnel of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps were killed by two huge explosions that occurred on Saturday at an IRGC munitions depot near the town of Malard in Alborz Province, about 30 kilometers west of Tehran.

“Seventeen official servicemen of the Sepah (IRGC) were martyred due to explosions which occurred during the transportation of ammunition,” the director of the IRGC public relations office told the Mehr News Agency.

A number of IRGC personnel were also critically injured in the incident, Brigadier General Ramezan Sharif said.

He also dismissed the reports by certain foreign media outlets that claimed the explosions were the result of a nuclear experiment. A team of experts has launched an investigation into the incident, he added.
