Presidential, city and rural council elections start in Iran

Polls have officially opened in Iran for presidential, and city and rural council elections with nearly 50.5 million people eligible to vote.

The Iranians began casting their ballots at 8:00 am (0330 GMT) on Friday with the polls scheduled to remain open for ten hours. Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei cast his ballot minutes into the polls.

More than 1.6 million of those eligible to vote are first-time voters.

Wenigstens der Spiegel scheint Rohani als "Reformkandidat" anzuerkennen und rechnet ihm auch gute Chancen zu. Auch wenn er aus dem Umfeld von Rafsandschani kommt, scheint er als eine gemäßtigte Alternative zu den Hardliner zu sein.
Mir persönlich sind aber "Geistliche" jedweder Religion als Staatoberhaupt suspekt. Hier wie im Iran ;-).
Ein Maschinenbauer als Regierungschef ist einfach unersetzlich :lol: .

Iran Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Araqchi says the massive voter turnout in the June 14 election will improve Iran’s regional and international standing.

On Sunday, Araqchi congratulated president-elect Hassan Rohani on his landmark victory in the June 14 election, which was marked by high voter turnout. Rohani won 50.7 percent of a total of 36,704,156 ballots counted.

Iran’s Golestan Palace granted World Heritage status

Iran’s prestigious Golestan Palace has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the UN cultural body says.

The palace was built in Tehran in the 16th century when the Safavid Dynasty was ruling Iran.

The site received its most characteristic features following extensions in the 19th century, when the ruling Qajar family selected the palace as the royal residence and seat of power. Golestan Palace currently consists of eight key palace structures mainly used as museums.

“The Golestan Palace is considered of Outstanding Universal Value because it is presented as the most complete and only remaining example of a royal palace which is an architectural masterpiece of the Qajar era,” the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) said in a statement.

Ayatollah Rafsanjani wurde aus vermeintlichen Altersgründen von der Präsidentschaftswahl ausgeschlossen. Die westlichen Medien, insbesondere auch dt. staatliche Medien, hatten sich darüber vermeintlich sehr aufgeregt. Was hier sicherlich nicht gesendet wird:

Wie konntest Du meinen Beitrag eigentlich so falsch verstehen? Mir ging es in keinster Weise um die Medienpräsenz der sanktionsbedingten Arzneimittel-Knappheit. Ich schrieb über die politische Figur Rafsanjanis, die in den hiesigen Medien nach seinem Ausscheiden aus der Präsidentschaftswahl als "der letzte pro-westliche Reformer" bezeichnet und zum Märtyrer demokratischer Grundrechte stilisiert wurde.

Die konkrete Äußerung Rafsajnis die ich in diesem Kontext besonders hervorheben wollte:
“Under false pretexts and sometimes by relying on the words and deeds of extremists, the [so-called] advocates of human rights cause suffering to the [Iranian] people, in particular the patients, which does not conform to any human principles.”

Das eben jener [Zitat Tagesschau:] "letzte pro-westliche Reformer" solche Aussagen raushaut hat eine gewisse Note.
