Kaczynski accepts Polish election defeat

Jaroslaw Kaczynski has accepted defeat in Poland's presidential elections after exit polls suggested he had lost to Bronislaw Komorowski.

Mr Komorowski, the acting president, won 53% of the vote to 47% for Mr Kaczynski, TVP state television said. [...]

Mr Komorowski is from the ruling Civic Platform party, while Mr Kaczynski represented the main opposition Law and Justice party. The election has been dominated by the plane crash. Poland's first couple died when their plane came down in Smolensk on 10 April as they flew to attend a memorial ceremony for the World War II Katyn massacre.
