Canada is examining a proposal from Britain to lease 10 Royal Air Force Hercules C-130J transport aircraft.
Officials with Defence Minister Bill Graham’s office have been briefed on the proposal, which would see Canada acquiring the “short” versions of the C-130J that the Royal Air Force now operates. The Royal Air Force would continue to operate its stretch versions of the C-130J, which are about 15 feet longer and can carry more material.
Britain would use the money from the Canadian lease to help finance the acquisition of another C-17 transport aircraft, industry sources in Canada and the United Kingdom said.
