Es hat sich diese Entwicklung ja schon seit einiger Zeit abgezeichnet, nun könnte die Abkehr Japans von einigen Punkten der 1947 verfügten bzw. begründeten Nachkriegsverfassung (besonders der Artikel 9, der Japan faktisch es nicht erlaubt, eigene Streitkräfte - bzw. Streitkräfte, die als solche definiert werden - zu unterhalten und militärische Maßnahmen anzudrohen, war ja immer schon, besonders seitens konservativer oder nationalistischer Kreise stark umstritten) aber tatsächlich in den nächsten Jahren erfolgen.
Vor allem die aktuelle Bedrohung durch das unberechenbare Nordkorea dürfte hierbei eine starke Rolle spielen. Indessen wird dieser Schritt Tokios Politikern sicher nicht leicht fallen, steht doch der Großteil der Bevölkerung noch hinter dieser als vorbildlich pazifistisch angesehenen Verfassung (s. Artikel).

Mr. Abe and his cabinet “are aware that Article 9 is very popular, and revising Article 9 is going to be alarming to many countries around them,” said Koichi Nakano, a political scientist at Sophia University in Tokyo. Just last week, a survey by the public broadcaster NHK found that 82 percent of respondents were “proud of the current Constitution that advocates pacifism.”
