Parliament ratifies Chavez's win in referendum

CARACAS, Aug. 27 (Xinhuanet) -- The National Assembly of Venezuela held an extraordinary session on Friday, announcing the ratification of the victory of President Hugo Chavez in the Aug. 15 recall referendum.

During the parliamentary session, Tarek William Saab, the ranking member for the ruling party, read an agreement on ratifying the "indisputable victory" of Chavez in the referendum and urging Venezuelans to create an environment of peace and tolerance.

The ratification agreement was approved by the majority of the representatives of the political parties allied to the government, with the absence of opposition parliamentarians. (...)
