Pentagon: China Re-Strategizes After Iraq

WASHINGTON — The speed with which U.S. ground forces captured Baghdad and the prominent role played in Iraq by U.S. commandos, have led China to rethink how it could counteract the American military in the event of a confrontation over Taiwan, the Pentagon says.

HONG KONG, China (CNN) -- The Iraqi war has convinced the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leadership that some form of confrontation with the U.S. could come earlier than expected.

Beijing has also begun to fine-tune its domestic and security policies to counter the perceived threat of U.S. "neo-imperialism."

China hit with anti-dumping legislation

The Bush administration on Friday proposed tariffs on imports of Chinese-made furniture, saying companies have been dumping millions of dollars of the wooden bedroom furniture into the United States at artificially low prices.
The duties on beds, dressers, armoires and other goods could push up prices for U.S. consumers, if formally adopted later this year.

The anti-dumping action is the largest case of many brought by U.S. manufacturers against their Chinese competitors.
