Gabya-Class Frigates Get Atmaca Anti-Ship Missiles TurDef
Gabya-class frigates (Ex Oliver Hazard Perry-class) of the Turkish Navy alongside two other ship classes will receive the Atmaca anti-ship missile.

STM’s Head of Combat Systems, Enver Küçükerman, announced the programme to arm the Turkish Navy frigates with indigenous anti-ship missiles during the 12th Naval Systems Seminar. Four Gabya-class frigates alongside three Ada-class corvettes and the Barbaros-class frigates under modernisation will be fitted with the missiles by the end of 2027’s first quarter.

This means that the four Gabya-class frigates to receive the Atmaca missiles will likely serve for at least another decade, considering the fact that an armament modernisation would not be done on a ship to retire in the short term. It is also likely that the frigates to receive Atmaca are the ones fitted with eight-cell Mk41 VLS modules for RIM-162 ESSM missiles.

While the ships have a considerable age, the presence of RIM-162 ESSM and Atmaca can keep them relevant for some more time.

Compared to the older generation Harpoon missiles present on Gabya-class frigates, Atmaca offers a longer range (250 km versus 124 km) and a more capable guidance system that has demonstrated itself in GNSS-denied scenarios.

Dem Bild nach zu urteilen scheinen sich MILDEN und NUKDEN nahezu das gleiche Design zu teilen. Im Gegensatz zu MILDEN das einen AIP Antrieb verwenden wird, soll NUKDEN ein Thorium - Salz für den Antrieb erhalten. Im Gegensatz zum AIP Antrieb ermöglicht der Nuklearantrieb eine längere Tauchdauer und eine von höhere Geschwindigkeit unter Wasser, was von Bedeutung ist bei Flugzeugträgergeleitschutz Aufgaben.

Turkish Navy’s nuclear submarine programme receives formal designation while the indigenous MILDEN project is already underway.

At the 12th Naval Systems Seminar held in Istanbul, Rear Admiral Timur Yılmaz, Commander of the Submarine Fleet, confirmed that Turkiye’s planned nuclear-powered submarine programme will be named NUKDEN—an abbreviation derived from “nuclear submarine” in Turkish.
The announcement marks a strategic shift from the previously emphasised MILDEN (National Submarine) initiative, placing a greater focus on nuclear propulsion for extended operational reach and deterrent capabilities. Rear Admiral Yılmaz explained that “the security of our nation, our deterrence posture, the extent of our jurisdiction and areas of interest, and the support required for task groups led by our national aircraft carrier necessitate the acquisition of a nuclear submarine.”


Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, Commander of the Turkish Naval Forces, has previously stated to Warships International Fleet Review during an interview that Turkiye would build a nuclear-powered submarine. Rear Admiral Yılmaz’s declaration suits this interview.

Türkiye Launches Third Indigenous Reis-Class Submarine TurDef
The Turkish Ministry of Defence (MoD) has officially announced the launch of the TCG MURATREİS, the third submarine of the Reis-class (Type 214TN) fleet.

The Gölcük Naval Shipyard reached the milestone on May 29, 2025. On the 572nd anniversary of the Conquest of Istanbul.

AIP-Equipped Submarine Project TCG MURATREİS is being constructed under the Air-Independent Propulsion (AIP)-equipped project (YTDP), which was initiated through a contract signed on 22 June 2011 between Türkiye’s Defence Industry Agency (SSB) and German shipbuilder Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS). The project envisions the construction of six Type 214TN submarines at Gölcük Naval Shipyard with a high degree of local industrial participation.

Bayraktar TB3 UCAV steuert MKEs Pirana Kamikaze USV TurDef
Im jüngsten Teaming-Test startete das Bayraktar TB3 UCAV vom TCG Anadolu LHD, übernahm die Kontrolle über MKEs Pirana Kamikaze USV und führte es zum Ziel.

Der Test des Bayraktar TB3 mit dem Pirana Kamikaze USV demonstrierte den kooperativen Einsatz eines UCAV und eines USV für eine eher unkonventionelle Methode der Oberflächenkriegsführung. Das von Bayraktar TB3 auf das statische Ziel gelenkte Pirana Kamikaze USV führte die nicht detonierende Kollision erfolgreich durch.

Bayraktar TB2 wurde in einem ähnlichen Test eingesetzt, bei dem es ASELSANs Albatros Kamikaze USV zu einem Zielschiff führte. Das von der mit Sprengköpfen bestückten Albatros getroffene Zielschiff erlitt durch die Explosion schwere strukturelle Schäden und sank.

Zusätzlich zur Bayraktar TB3, die bereits an Bord des LHD der TCG Anadolu (L400) stationiert werden soll, können Kamikaze-USVs vom flutbaren Dock aus eingesetzt werden, in dem normalerweise Landungsboote und amphibische Panzerfahrzeuge stationiert sind.

Dies würde der TCG Anadolu eine alternative Fähigkeit zur Bekämpfung von Überwasserangriffen auf lange Distanz bieten, bei der Kamikaze-USVs ISTAR-Unterstützung durch Bayraktar TB3s erhalten, die vom LHD aus operieren. USVs könnten mit den Munitionsoptionen mit größerer Reichweite der Bayraktar TB3 wie Kemankeş 1 und UAV-122 für zweigleisige Angriffe auf maritime Ziele kombiniert werden.
