Adm. Julio Soares de Moura Neto has reaffirmed plans to procure five 6,000-ton frigates, five ocean-going patrol vessels (OPV) and a 20,000-ton logistics ship. The final details of the shipbuilding plan will be worked out with the government that takes office in January after next month’s presidential election. Provisionally, construction of the OPV will begin in 2012 at Brazilian shipyards, to be followed by the logistics ship and the frigates.
