SAHA EXPO 2026: SSB and TUSAŞ Sign KAAN Procurement Deal TurDef
SSB and TUSAŞ have signed the deal for the KAAN Block-10 fighter jets during SAHA EXPO 2026, which covers the delivery of 20 fighters between 2028 and 2030.

The procurement deal for the initial production variant of the KAAN fighter, KAAN Block-10, has been signed between SSB and TUSAŞ, with the deliveries of the first KAAN fighters to take place between 2028 and 2030.

KAAN Block-10, as the initial production variant will have the core capabilities and use the F110-GE-129 turbofan engines also present on the Turkish Air Force F-16 fighters.

Ankara – „Europas Ambitionen für einen Kampfjet der sechsten Generation stehen vor strukturellen Herausforderungen“, schreibt Mursel Dogrul. Der Autor des türkischen Senders TRT World weist hin auf den „Mangel an Kohärenz in der europäischen Luftstreitkräfteplanung“, wie er schreibt. Tatsächlich sucht Europa nach dem ultimativen Kampfjet der fünften und sechsten Generation – um die alternden Flotten zu modernisieren und um sich aus der Abhängigkeit von Donald Trumps F-35-Kampfjet zu befreien. Allerdings scheint sich Europa weiterhin im individuellen Klein-Klein zu verzetteln, und mit der Türkei betritt jetzt ein weiterer ambitionierter Anbieter die Bühne; Europas NATO-Partner am Bosporus will mit dem Tarnkappenjet „Kaan“ (Herrscher, Kaiser) der Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) zur neuen Macht am Himmel aufsteigen.

US moves on KAAN engine sale ahead of NATO summit in July TurDef
The Trump administration is preparing to move ahead with the sale of more than $700 million worth of GE Aerospace engines for Türkiye’s KAAN fighter programme, Reuters reported on 24 June, in a step that would clear a politically sensitive hurdle ahead of next month’s NATO summit in Ankara. The Washington-sourced Reuters Exclusive, by Humeyra Pamuk and Phil Stewart, cited four sources familiar with the matter.

According to Reuters, the administration plans to formally notify Congress of the sale despite objections raised during the informal review process, as Washington looks to smooth ties with Ankara before the 7–8 July summit. The package would cover engines for Türkiye’s first indigenous combat aircraft programme, turning a sensitive defence-industrial file into an early test of whether Washington is prepared to ease pressure on one of the most politically exposed areas of the bilateral relationship.
