Signal an Iran

Zitat: Saudi nuclear weapons 'on order' from Pakistan

While the kingdom's quest has often been set in the context of countering Iran's atomic programme, it is now possible that the Saudis might be able to deploy such devices more quickly than the Islamic republic.

Earlier this year, a senior Nato decision maker told me that he had seen intelligence reporting that nuclear weapons made in Pakistan on behalf of Saudi Arabia are now sitting ready for delivery.

Last month Amos Yadlin, a former head of Israeli military intelligence, told a conference in Sweden that if Iran got the bomb, "the Saudis will not wait one month. They already paid for the bomb, they will go to Pakistan and bring what they need to bring."
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-24823846#dna-comments">http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle- ... a-comments</a><!-- m -->

Zitat:What does the Saudi government's nuclear statement mean?

The Saudi embassy in London issued the rare public response to us on Wednesday afternoon after we had given them details of our report and the evidence it contained.

The kingdom, which is a signatory of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, has long argued that the Middle East should be a nuclear free-area.

But Wednesday's statement highlighted the "on-going failure" of the UN Security Council to achieve this aim and warned that "lack of international action has put the region under the threat of a time bomb that cannot be refused by manoeuvring around it".

Sir William Patey, former UK ambassador to Saudi Arabia, told BBC2's Newsnight programme he considered the timing of this statement, with nuclear talks ongoing with Iran in Geneva, to be significant.

The refusal of Saudi Arabia to deny our story can be seen as a continuation of signalling that started in 2009.
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-24855902">http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-24855902</a><!-- m -->

Und dies bevor Kerry in Genf Peace in our Time verkünden wird.

UAE – IRAN
The United Arab Emirates and Iran, with the help of the Omani government, are reported to have reached an agreement on the disputed Iranian-occupied islands Abu Musa and the Greater and Lesser Tunb islands in the Persian Gulf, near the Strait of Hormuz. The two Tunb islands are to return to the UAE while the final agreement for Abu Musa is being ironed out. Iran to retain sea bed rights around the three islands while the UAE will hold sovereignty. To compensate, Oman will grant Iran a strategic location on Ras Musandam mountain.
(rmks: only a few months ago, Iran had withdrawn a fighter bomber squadron from Abu Musa, suggesting some agreement was in the making.)
