Moscow: The aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, to be delivered to the Indian navy in December, has been put in a dry dock at a Russian shipyard for "cosmetic" repairs ahead of final sea trials.

"The work is underway to repaint the hull under the waterline," Sergey Novoselov, head of defence export projects at Russia's Sevmash shipyard, said.

Am “Tag der Marineflieger” (11. Mai) hat Verteidigungsminister AK Antony auf dem Marinefliegerhorst Hansa (bei Goa) ein neues Marinefliegergeschwader aufgestellt.

Die Naval Air Squadron 303 (INAS 303) „Black Panthers” wird insgesamt 20 trägergestützte Kampfflugzeuge Mig-29 Fulcrum-D fliegen – 16 in der einsitzigen Kampfversion Mig-29K, vier weitere in der Trainerversion Mig-29KUB. Die 20 Flugzeuge gehören zu insgesamt 45 für die indische Marine in Russland hergestellten Maschinen dieses Typs, die für trägergestützten Flugbetrieb u.a. vom neuen Flugzeugträger VIKRAMADITYA vorgesehen sind.

Zunächst waren in Russland (zusammen mit dem umzubauenden früheren Flugzeugträger ADMIRAL GORSHKOV, nun VIKRAMADTYA) nur 16 Fulcrum-D bestellt worden; im Januar 2010 wurden dann in Wahrnehmung einer vereinbarten Option weitere 29 Flugzeuge geordert. Die ersten Maschinen wurden Anfang 2010 geliefert und werden seitdem auch bereits zur Ausbildung künftiger Trägerpiloten der indischen Marine genutzt. Dazu wurde auf der Hansa Naval Air Station auch ein nachgebildetes Flugzeugträger-Flugdeck gebaut. Zuvor hatten indische Fluglehrer bereits ausgiebige Test- und Schulungsflüge auf dem russischen Flugzeugträger ADMIRAL KUZNETSOV (in der Barentssee) absolviert.

Vorerst muss sich das neue Geschwader noch mit Flugbetrieb am Heimatplatz begnügen und das Eintreffen seines Flugzeugträgers abwarten. Die Lieferung der VIKRAMADITYA hatte sich nach diversen Problemen immer wieder verzögert. Nun soll sie nach im Sommer im russischen Weißen Meer geplanten letzten Probefahrten im Dezember dieses Jahres endlich nach Indien verlegen. ...

India-made aircraft-carrier to test waters in Aug

Kochi, June 22:

The Indian Navy’s indigenously built aircraft carrier, which is under construction at the Cochin Shipyard, will be launched on August 12 by Union Defence Minister A. K. Antony.

The carrier will be floated out of the shipyard on August 12 and taken to the repair dock to carry out remaining work. The hull work for the vessel will be over by June next year, by when the ship will be ready for trials. The vessel will be inducted into the Navy by January 2018, Commodore K. Subramaniam, Chairman and Managing Director, Cochin Shipyard, said.

Sources say that the aircraft carrier, which weighs 40,000 tonnes and has 20,000 tonnes of steel, is estimated to cost $4-5 billion.

The Vikramaditya will now sail to the Barents Sea, where the ship will undertake working-up procedures including aircraft deck operations. Several MiG-29K fighters and two helicopters will be used in the flight trials.

A report on the results of the final trials must be given to the Indians on October 15, the Sevmash official said.
