ASFAT to Display TF-2000 AAW Destroyer in SAHA EXPO

The TF-2000 Anti-Air Warfare Destroyer will be displayed at the SAHA EXPO 2024 exhibition in Istanbul.
ASFAT, which will build the TF-2000 air defence destroyer at the Istanbul Shipyard Command with the SSIK decision, will display the latest iteration of the TF-2000’s design at SAHA EXPO 2024, which will take place between 22 and 26 October this year.
The exhibition will display TF-2000’s published design changes more clearly. Some of these changes include the removal of ATMACA anti-ship missile launchers for an additional 32 MİDLAS VLS cells and the removal of AYR illumination radar from the ÇAFRAD radar complex.
TF-2000 will be a large leap in terms of the Turkish Navy’s air defence capabilities thanks to 96 strike length MİDLAS VLS cells to house HİSAR-D (40+ km range), SAPAN Block 1/2 (Assumed medium and medium-long range respectively), SİPER Block 1-D (100+ km range), and SİPER Block 2-D (150+ km range) air defence missiles. The close-range defences consist of a GÖKDENİZ CIWS on the stern and a PDMS on the bow (GÖKSUR or LEVENT). In addition to air defence, the ships will be capable of ASuW and land attack missions with vertical-launch ATMACA anti-ship missiles and GEZGİN cruise missiles.

ASFAT Shows MİLDEN Submarine With VLS
ASFAT has shown the MİLDEN submarine with VLS for cruise missiles during the SAHA EXPO 2024 exhibition as the secondary weapon.

The VLS cells will be used to launch cruise missiles, which will likely include ATMACA and GEZGİN.

There has been no statement on whether ROKETSAN's MİDLAS VLS or a new one will be used on the submarine.

The main advantage of using VLS on MİLDEN is the space reserved for more torpedoes in the torpedo bays, as cruise missiles occupy the same space with torpedoes otherwise.

This also shows that MİLDEN will act as a conventional deterrent with comprehensive land attack capabilities in addition to defence against warships and submarines.

The installation of a VLS has been among the possibilities for MİLDEN as the first Turkish-designed submarine is considerably larger than the Type 209 and Reis-class (Type 214TN) submarines of the Turkish Navy.

A similar application is ROK's KSS-III submarines with K-VLS for Hyunmoo 4-4 SRBMs for striking land targets.

ULAQ KAMA Prototype Unveiled at SAHA EXPO 2024
The prototype of ULAQ's KAMA Expendable Unmanned Surface Vehicle, a joint venture between Ares Shipyard and Meteksan Defence, was exhibited for the first time at SAHA EXPO 2024.

Antalya-based ARES Shipyard and Ankara-based Meteksan Defence introduced ULAQ KAMA, the latest unmanned surface ship family addition. This new system, which promises to redefine the nature of maritime deterrence and asymmetric warfare, aims to make new contributions to the doctrine.

ULAQ KAMA is a solution to the changing battlefield conditions in the world. As global tensions and power dynamics change, the demand for cost-effective, highly effective defence solutions also increases. This Expendable Unmanned Surface Vehicle: Besides providing intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities (ISR), it was designed to meet this need by assuming a deterrent role with its high-capacity explosive payload.

ULAQ KAMA offers an operational range of over 200 nautical miles, offering an alternative to all coastal countries considering protecting the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

TRANÇA mini attack submarine breaks cover in Turkey
At SAHA EXPO 2024, DATUM Submarine Technologies, based at Istanbul Technical University, unveiled its mini attack submarine, TRANÇA.
Tayfun Ozberk 27 Oct 2024

TRANÇA is designed with advanced mobility in mind, capable of being transported via low-bed trailers and launched into the water from cranes, eliminating the need for permanent bases or specialized crews in remote regions. Dr. Munir Cansin Ozden, founder of DATUM A.Ş., emphasized the deliberate choice of TRANÇA’s compact 20-meter, 80-ton dimensions, which allow for fast and efficient land transportation. “This submarine is not just designed for attack missions; it’s versatile enough to serve as a mobile testing platform for naval technologies,” Dr. Ozden explained.

Bayraktar TB3 Takes off From TCG ANADOLU LHD

Baykar's Bayraktar TB3 STOL UCAV successfully took off from and landed on TCG ANADOLU (L400) LHD for the first time.
At takeoff, the speed of TCG ANADOLU and the ski jump brought advantage. In the landing phase, the braking system successfully stopped the UCAV slightly at half-length without requiring any arresting gear.

Additionally, the UCAV approached the runway under winds, causing horizontal shifts.
Before the landing on TCG ANADOLU (L 400), night approach tests were performed to validate the automatic landing system.
The flight test from the intended platform, which took place almost a year after the maiden flight from a conventional runway, is a merit of rapid progress in the testing phase.

Akhisar Offshore Patrol Ship to Set Sea Trials

The Turkish Navy’s future Offshore Patrol Ship, Akhisar P-1220, which was built at the Istanbul Shipyard Command under ASFAT’s responsibility, is preparing to conduct sea trials.
Military Factory and Shipyard Operations Corporation (ASFAT A.Ş.) wrote on social media, “Hisar class Offshore Patrol Ship, built by Istanbul Shipyard Command, of which we are the prime contractor as ASFAT, will soon set sail. We will continue to add strength to our domestic and national defence industry and produce for the strong future of our state and nation!”
The new offshore patrol ship has a low radar cross-section and underwater acoustic signature.
A contract was signed between ASFAT A.Ş. and the Ministry of National Defence for two offshore patrol vessels based on the Ada class in November 2020. The first ship (P-1220) TCG AKHİSAR began in August 2021, while the second ship (P-1221) TCG KOÇHİSAR began in December 2022.
