ISRAEL USES U.S. WEAPONS TO SHOOT DOWN SYRIAN MiGs


WASHINGTON [MENL] -- Israel has deployed U.S. weaponry to shoot down two advanced Syrian fighter-jets.

Diplomatic sources said Israel Air Force F-16 multi-role fighters intercepted and downed two Syrian MiG-29 fighter-jets last year. The sources said the dogfight took place in September 2004 over the eastern Mediterranean Sea.

This was the first engagement between Israeli and Syrian fighter-jets since the 1980s. The sources said the air battle took place when Israel Air Force fighter-jets buzzed the Syrian city of Latakia, a port used by Iran for the shipment of weapons to Hizbullah.

The Washington-based Reform Party of Syria provided details of the Israeli-Syrian dogfight. RPS said the air battle took place on Sept. 14, 2004, adding that both downed pilots were rescued by Syrian military helicopters.

Israeli Air Force Training for Long-Range Bombing Missions

The Israeli air force is training its crews for long-range bombing missions, the wing commander of an F-16I fighter-bomber group said Feb. 28.

“Israel and the air force have understood for a fairly long time now that the threats that surround us are constantly growing and that’s why steps have been taken to extend our range of action,” the officer, identified only as Wing Commander D., told Israel’s privately run second television channel.

“That is to say that we are training for medium- and long-range missions.”



The television highlighted that the commander was referring to possible future missions against suspected nuclear facilities in Iran by showing footage of the new atomic power station that Israel’s arch enemy is completing with Russian assistance in the Gulf port of Bushehr.

Weiss jemand wieviele Maschinen Israel verlohren hat?

Ich denke mal den Jom-Kippur aber ohne das Wissen welchen du meinst ist es schon leicht schwer.

Ja die Isralelis hatten hohe Verluste im Luftbereich da der Gegenr aus den vergangen Kriegen gelernt hatte und massiv Luftabwehr zur Verfügung hatte die auch taugte.Die Panzerverbände wurden auch besser geschützt durch mobile Luftabwehr.
Der Blitzkrieg im Jom-Kippur Fall war nun auf Seiten der Araber und nicht mehr der Israelis.

Die arabischen Armeen haben sich im Jom-Kippurkrieg praktisch noch diletantischer
angestellt als in den anderen Kriegen.Dieses mal hatten sie nämlich sowohl modernstes Matarial zur Verfügung als auch den strategischen Vorteil,einen wie man ihn nur ganz selten hat.
Im Anbetracht dessen sind die israelische Verluste zwar hoch aber noch hinnehmbar wenn man bedenkt was gedroht hat.

Israel – Guided Bomb Units (GBU-28)

On 26 April 2005, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress of a possible Foreign Military Sale to Israel of 100 GBU-28s as well as associated equipment and services. The total value, if all options are exercised, could be as high as $30 million.

The Government of Israel has requested a possible sale of 100 GBU-28s that include: BLU-113A/B penetration warhead, WGU-36A/B guidance control unit, FMU-143H/B bomb fuze, and BSG-92/B airfoil group guide. Also included are: support equipment; testing, spare and repair parts; supply support; publications and technical data, U.S. Government and contractor technical assistance and other related elements of logistics support. The estimated cost is $30 million.

This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a friendly country that has been, and continues to be, an important force for economic progress in the Middle East.

The GBU-28 is a special weapon that was developed for penetrating hardened command centers located deep underground. The Israeli Air Force will use these GBU-28s on their F-15 aircraft.

Will Israel Iran am Bombenbau hindern?

Hintergrund der Bombenlieferung ist der Atomstreit mit Iran. Israel will laut John Pike von der Organisation Globalsecurity.org. in der Lage sein, unterirdische Nuklearwaffenanlagen im Mullahstaat angreifen zu können.
Ein Bombenverkauf an Israel müsse in Teheran als Warnung verstanden werden, dass die USA einen Aufstieg Irans zur Atommacht nicht zulassen würden, falls diplomatische Bemühungen fehlschlügen.

Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) has joined with US-based Aviation Technology Group (ATG) to develop the first Israeli military jet since the collapse of the Lavi project in the late 1980s, senior management sources told The Jerusalem Post Monday.

Much less ambitious and smaller than the Lavi, the Javelin advanced jet trainer hopes to address the global demand for next generation training aircraft and light combat jets. The tandem-seat, twin-engine plane will be suited for a variety of military training and support requirements.
