Japan und die Volksrepublik China sind unabhängig aller bilateralen Beziehungen tief greifender Spannungen ausgesetzt. Nicht erst seit dem bekannt werden großer Rohstoffvorkommen sind einige kleine Inseln von großer Bedeutung und damit Streitobjekt zwischen beiden Ländern, und das schon seit Jahrhunderten.

Notwithstanding all bilateral relations, Japan and the Peoples Republic of China have encountered increasing tensions. Already for centuries, and not just after the discovery of major natural resources, some small West Pacific islands have carried a great weight for both of them – and have remained an object of dispute.

Japan protest over 'dangerous' China helicopter fly-by

Japan has lodged a formal protest after a Chinese helicopter flew close to its destroyer in the East China Sea. The Japanese ship was on patrol on Monday near a disputed gas field that both countries want to exploit.

It is the latest in a series of tense confrontations between Japan and its increasingly powerful neighbour.Relations between the two nations have been strained since a row last year over the arrest of a Chinese trawler captain near islands both claim.

Japan's Defence Minister Toshimi Kitazawa called the aerial manoeuvre by the Chinese helicopter "extremely dangerous". Officials say it flew within 70m (230ft) of the Japanese destroyer, Samidare, at an altitude of less than 40m. [...]

Last week Japanese F-15 fighters were scrambled after Chinese aircraft were spotted approaching the Senkaku islands in the East China Sea.

China rechtfertigt Militärflugzeuge über Diaoyu-Inseln

Am Montag wollten zwei chinesische Militärflugzeuge die Diaoyu-Inseln überfliegen. Als sich die Flugzeuge den Inseln bis auf 60 Kilometer genähert hatten, schickte das japanische Verteidigungsministerium zwei Kampfflugzeuge vom Typ F-15, um sie abzufangen. Das chinesische Verteidigungsministerium erklärte daraufhin, dass sowohl die Diaoyu-Inseln als auch ihre Nachbarinseln seit jeher zu China gehören. China verfügt über die unbestreitbare Souveränität über diese Inseln

Der stellvertretende Generalsekretär der chinesischen Studiengesellschaft für Militärwissenschaften, Luo Yuan, meint:

„Auf den japanischen Fotos sieht man, dass wir Transportsflugzeuge vom Typ Yun-8 geschickt haben, die für Patrouillemissionen eingesetzt werden. Und die Japaner haben F-15 Kampfflugzeuge. Das ist offensichtlich nicht ausgeglichen und spricht von Angriffsabsicht. In diesem Sinne hat Japan China schwer bedroht und provoziert."

Cracks/tears in the skin of new indigenously developed maritime patrol aircraft P-1 … after ground tests during which pressure was applied to the aircraft's body … will likely delay induction beyond March 2012. BEIJING: China on Thursday expressed support for the idea of creating an East Asian Community mentioned by Japan's newly elected Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama.

China defends boat patrol in disputed waters

Es sollte ein Routineflug über dem ostchinesischen Meer werden. Das Flugzeug der japanischen Küstenwache stößt jedoch mit einem Albatros zusammen. Das Verkehrsministerium will fortan Radaranlagen einsetzen.

Das klingt diesmal doch sehr deutlich danach, das China nun vorhat, Tatsachen zu schaffen und ich kann mir vorstellen, das die Anrainer protestieren, aber nichts dagegen machen werden, da keiner sich einen militärischen Konflikt mit China leisten will und langfristig auch nicht kann.

wie das MARINEFORUM in der heutigen Wochenschau meldet, will das US Marine Corps 9.000 seiner 16.000 in Okinawa (Japan) stationierten Soldaten von der Insel abziehen. Die USA kommen damit offenber massiven Wünschen der örtlichen Bevölkerung entgegen.
"In China dürfte dies mit Genugtuung zur Kenntnis genommen werden."
Allerdings sollte China das nicht mit zu großer Freude begrüßen. Die Soldaten sollen nämlich nur "zurück in die zweite Linie" und "nach Guam (5.000), Hawaii oder Australien umziehen". Im Spannungs- oder gar Konfliktfall wären die Einheiten also relativ schnell wieder am Ort des Geschehens, ganz im Gegenteil - sie könnten sogar recht schnell auch anderswo einen Schwerpunkt bilden.
Dass die USA den Pazifik und vor allem Südostasien durchaus als Schwerpunkt ihrer Interessen sehen, sieht man insbesondere in Australien. Dort "baut das USMC in Darwin in den kommenden Jahren eine „rotierende Präsenz“ von bis zu 2.000 Soldaten auf." Damit wird die Präsenz in der Nähe der ASEAN-Staaten und des südchinesichen Meeres sogar noch verstärkt.
