Zitat:China’s Aircraft Carrier Trouble—Spewing Steam and Losing Power

There’s no more of a conspicuous and potent symbol of China’s growing naval power than the aircraft carrier Liaoning.

But the 53,000-ton, 999-foot-long carrier could be dangerous to her crew and prone to engine failures. If so, that makes the vessel as much of a liability as an asset to Beijing.

Zitat:Second Chinese aircraft carrier to be completed in 6 years: Kanwa

The Kanwa Defense Review said that the Dalian Shipyard has already begun construction on the Type 001A carrier. The shipyard has been working on the project for ten years. For security reason, a 400-meter long indoor building berth was built. The article said that the aircraft carrier will likely be equipped with a steam turbine designed in Harbin in northeastern China and the steel plates for the ships will be mostly sourced from Shanghai.

Like the Liaoning, the Type 001A has a ski-jump ramp.

The magazine said that the Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai is designing a second domestic aircraft carrier as well. This new ship is likely to be fitted with a catapult similar to US carriers.

Zitat:China will have better aircraft carriers than India, Japan: Kanwa

Staff Reporter 2014-12-25 09:09 (GMT+8)
....

However, a senior official from the Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai, believed to be the location where construction of China's first domestically built carrier is underway, claimed that the Type 001A aircraft carrier will be better than both the Vikramaditya and Japan's Izumo-class helicopter destroyers.
