Zitat:VT SEEKS TO BUILD ON RNO LINKS THROUGH PROJECT KHAREEF

VT (Vosper Thornycroft) Shipbuilding is looking to build on its long established relationship with the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) by supplying the next generation of bluewater patrol vessels to the expanding Gulf navy.

VT, which has built fast attack craft and corvettes for the RNO over the past two decades, has submitted a proposal for Project Khareef, a requirement for up to three Ocean Patrol Vessels to supplement Oman’s existing EEZ (Economic Exclusion Zone) resources.

The 79m. ship is a highl
y capable design that will be equipped to carry out protection duties in Omani waters, deterrent operations during times of tension, clandestine operations and other duties such as search and rescue, disaster relief and helicopter operations.

The design benefits from VT’s extensive experience in building corvettes and OPVs, most recently for the UK Royal Navy through its River Class ships. Like the River Class, the hull has a ram bow for improved seakeeping.

Other notable features include a high degree of stealth built into the design; facilities to operate the Westland Super Lynx helicopter; an innovative boat dock for the safe launch and recovery of a rigid inflatable boat.

VT Shipbuilding Export Director Peter Stirk says: “VT has been honoured to have helped the RNO to develop into the effective force that it is today. This latest OPV will enable the RNO to enhance its role in ensuring stability in the region.

“We are also keen to continue our close links with the RNO by offering them a significant role in working alongside VT in the design and through
-life support of these ships, helping them to develop their
capability, particularly in-country.”

Construction of the ships would be carried out at VT’s new state-of-the-art naval shipbuilding facilities at Portsmouth Naval Base which is set to guarantee new levels of productivity and quality.

Post-delivery support will be placed with VT’s proven Integrated Logistics Division which will provide full documentation, spares and ILS management services. The VT proposal also includes provision for a joint support team that will develop the capability for maintaining and refitting the ships in-country. Ship crew training will be carried out by VT joint venture Flagship Training.

Mr Stirk adds: “This is an important opportunity for VT Shipbuilding and we are delighted to have the full, exclusive support of the UK Government in our proposal. This will also manifest itself in extensive co-operation and support for the RNO from the UK Royal Navy, further developing the close links that exist between the UK and Oman.”

Zitat:Milestone for Abu Dhabi Ship Building

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://idex.janes.com/docs/idex2/sections/moxiepix/a246.jpg">http://idex.janes.com/docs/idex2/sectio ... x/a246.jpg</a><!-- m -->

Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) is riding high at the show. Alongside the tie-up with AMS announced at the show, the company has also reached agreement with the government of Oman on the production of a 64m landing craft for the Sultanate. The company’s prospects should also be enhanced by the composite workshops it is in the process of building.

The contract for the delivery of the vessel to Oman was signed during the show. Under the terms of the project, ADSB will build a landing craft to fulfil the requirements of the Royal Navy of Oman’s Project Mahmal. The contract marks a major milestone for ADSB, since it is the first new naval construction contract for ADSB from a country other than the UAE.

The company’s board chairman Abdullah Nasser Al Mansouri said: “ADSB is very grateful to the Oman government for selecting our

UAE company for this important project and we look forward to providing high-quality naval vessels and support service to the Royal Navy of Oman just as we have been doing for the UAE Navy.”

The company is also in the process of upgrading its facilities to give it wider access to the market. The composite workshops will give the company the capability to manufacture vessels with composite hulls and will be geared to manufacturing vessels up to 50m in length. They will also include a 4,400m2 moulding workshop, which is due to be completed in May this year, and a dedicated outfitting shop.

Zitat:Fast Patrol Boats for Oman
United States Marine, Inc. in New Orleans, LA is being awarded an $18.8 million firm-fixed-price contract for construction of three 27-meter Fast Patrol Boats (FPB), with technical data, training, and spare parts for the Royal Oman Police Coast Guard under the Foreign Military Sales Program. The FPB will be constructed of fiberglass reinforced plastic and conform to American Bureau of Shipping high-speed naval craft requirements.

The Fast Patrol Boat enjoys a thriving market in the Persian Gulf. Australian Shipbuilder Austal recently delivered 10 FPBs to Yemen, and 3 more of its designs are in service with Kuwait. USMI, meanwhile, is also the manufacturer and retailer of the innovative (and patented) Very Slim Vessel FPB design, in addition to its more conventional XFPB.
