China, France to hold joint naval exercises

The two-warship fleet with 322 crew members aboard includes an anti-submarine-warfare destroyer Latouche-Treville and a light frigate Commandant Birot.

Chinese guided missile destroyer Harbin, replenishment ship Hongze Lake and shipboard helicopter Dolphin will work with the French warships for the first naval drills in the nontraditional security area between China and France.

In den Territorialgewässern vor der ostchinesischen Küstenstadt Qingdao hat am Dienstag ein chinesisch-französisches Marinemanöver begonnen. Es ist das bislang größte gemeinsame Manöver der chinesischen Marine mit ausländischen Verbänden.

Im Mittelpunkt der Seeübung stehen u.a. die Kommunikation zwischen Formationen von Kriegsschiffen und die gemeinsame Suche und Bergung von Schiffbrüchigen. An der Übung sind ungefähr 700 Offiziere und Matrosen der chinesischen und der französischen Marine beteiligt.
