Dearsan Launches MAC 50 Fast Attack Craft for Qatari Navy TurDef
Turkish shipbuilder Dearsan announced on 17 November 2025 on social media that it has successfully launched the first of two MAC 50 missile attack craft being built for the Qatari Emiri Naval Forces. The vessels are an extended and modernised variant of Dearsan’s original 43-metre FAC design, lengthened to 50 metres at Qatar’s request to integrate additional combat systems and mission capabilities.

The platform has Roketsan ÇAKIR anti-ship missiles and Roketsan Sungur surface-to-air missiles on board. The primary gun is a Leonardo 40 mm, and there are also two Aselsan STAMP remote weapon stations and two manually controlled 12.7 mm machine guns. It has a full set of sensors for littoral and open-sea operations, including an Aselsan MAR-D air and surface surveillance radar, an LPI navigation radar, an electro-optical sensor, and an electronic support measures system.

After the launch, Dearsan will continue building the second ship according to the anticipated timeline while also equipping the first ship. After outfitting, the MAC 50s will undergo sea trials initially in Türkiye and later in Qatar before their formal induction into the Qatari Emiri Naval Forces.

Indonesia Prepares Merah Putih Frigate for CENK 350-N Radar TurDef
Indonesia’s Merah Putih frigate, based on Arrowhead 140, was spotted at the shipyard with preparations for ASELSAN’s CENK 350-N AESA radars on the mast.

A photo shared by Indonesia-based Padepokan Keris shows that Indonesia’s future Merah Putih-class frigate has been fitted with the mast section that will accommodate ASELSAN’s new CENK 350-N fixed AESA radar suite.

CENK 350-N’s existence was revealed alongside the detailed equipment information on Merah Putih-class frigates. Later on, during the radar’s unveiling at IDEF2025, it was stated that CENK 350-N’s first export contract was already signed.

CENK 350-N is a fixed array multi-function X-band AESA radar consisting of four arrays, each covering 70 degrees in elevation and collectively covering 360 degrees in azimuth. The radar can operate at ranges up to 250 km.

Another ASELSAN radar included in the main contract is the CENK 200-N (MAR-D) X-band searching radar with a range of 100 km, which doubles as a helicopter support radar. Rotating type CENK 400-N S-band AESA radar is also likely to be included with a longer range compared to CENK 350-N.

ASFAT Delivers Akhisar to Romania in Landmark NATO Sale TurDef
Türkiye’s ASFAT completes its first-ever warship export to a NATO–EU member as Romania commissions the Akhisar, classified as a light corvette due to its modular upgrade potential.

ASFAT has completed Türkiye’s first sale of a warship to a NATO and European Union member state, delivering the Akhisar to the Romanian Navy. The vessel, constructed at Istanbul Naval Shipyard Command, marks a significant milestone in Türkiye’s defence-export record and adds a new dimension to military cooperation between the two countries.

Romania’s Light Corvette deal: Turkiye’s Hisar Class ex-OPV TurDef
Romania receives a brand-new vessel that was originally built at ITK for the Turkish Navy but transferred to a new user without serving even a single day in Türkiye. This agreement brings more than a ship into the area of cooperation. Following Russia’s invasion of Crimea in 2014, Romania felt the need to strengthen its Black Sea fleet.

Turkish company STM, offering an Ada-class solution, came very close to signing an agreement, but political considerations overrode military requirements. EU projects and EU-funded procurement mechanisms altered the process. As a result, Romania lost almost a decade with France and eventually returned to Türkiye once again.

As a result, Romania’s programme for four new corvettes and the modernisation of two Type 22 frigates progressed only this far once the EU intervened. What the EU and France were unable to deliver, Türkiye ultimately did. Romania, in turn, has reached this point not with four corvettes and two upgraded ships, but with a single light corvette.

This new vessel carries Türkiye’s expertise, shaped across three seas—the Black Sea, the Aegean and the Mediterranean. It also offers significant growth potential thanks to its modular design. Romania describes the platform as a “light corvette,” emphasising its modularity and its own classification approach, while Türkiye defines it as an Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) due to its role within the Turkish Navy’s mission structure.

This article refers to the ship as an OPV, as this reflects the Turkish configuration at the moment. Since the Romanian Navy has not yet disclosed the armament it plans to integrate, the narrative assumes that the platform remains unmodified.

Turkey is in advanced discussions to establish a facility in Pakistan to assemble Turkish-made combat drones, part of Ankara’s push to expand its fast-growing defense industry into new markets, Bloomberg reported, citing Turkish officials familiar with the negotiations.

According to the report the project would involve exporting stealth and long-endurance drone platforms from Turkey for assembly in Pakistan.

The officials, who spoke anonymously because the talks are not public, said the discussions have made significant progress since October. Turkey’s defense ministry declined to comment, and Pakistan’s information minister did not respond to questions.

The potential cooperation comes amid a surge in exports in Turkey’s defense and aerospace industry.

Data released Thursday showed that exports between January and November increased 30 percent from the same period last year, already surpassing Turkey’s previous annual highs with one month still left in 2025.

Turkish Naval Industry Delivers Five Platforms Abroad TurDef
Türkiye marks an unofficial Maritime Day where it will mark multiple milestones, delivering five naval platforms to three navies while commissioning new vessels and systems at home.

Tomorrow’s ceremonies will coincide with one of the most symbolically dense calendars the Turkish naval and defence industry has seen in recent years, as export deliveries, commissioning ceremonies and new construction milestones are brought together under a single programme in Istanbul.

According to the Ministry of National Defence, the second ship of the Pakistan MİLGEM programme, PNS Khaibar, is set to be formally delivered to the Pakistan Navy. This delivery reinforces Türkiye’s growing role as a surface combatant supplier beyond NATO markets. At the same time, TCG Akhisar, built under the Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) will be handed over to the Romanian Navy. This will mark another concrete step in Türkiye’s expanding naval exports to Europe and the Black Sea region.

Domestically, the programme also includes the flag-raising ceremony for TCG Koçhisar OPV, signalling its formal entry into service. The first OPV to join the Turkish Navy will be this one. The first ship of the OPV Program, Akhisar, will be sent to Romania. At the same time, the Turkish Armed Forces will get several important platforms and systems, such as the second Reis-class Air Independent Propulsion Hızırreis submarine, the Ç-159 landing ship, and the ULAQ unmanned surface vessel. This shows that the navy is also focussing on undersea warfare, amphibious capability, and unmanned maritime systems.

Spain to induct TUSAŞ’s HÜRJET into service as Saeta II TurDef
Spain’s Air and Space Force has selected the name Saeta II for its future advanced jet trainer based on TUSAŞ’s HÜRJET, to be acquired under the ITS-C programme led by Airbus.

According to Spanish defence outlet Infodefensa, Spain’s Air and Space Force has decided to induct TUSAŞ’s HÜRJET advanced jet trainer into service under the designation Saeta II, reviving a historically significant name from Spanish aviation heritage. The aircraft will enter service following a Spain-specific adaptation process led by Airbus Defence and Space.

Developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), HÜRJET will form the basis of Spain’s future advanced jet training capability. Once adapted to Spanish operational requirements, the aircraft will be designated Saeta II and integrated into the Air and Space Force’s training pipeline under the Integrated Training System for Combat Aircraft (ITS-C) programme.

In the history of Spanish aviation, the name Saeta II has a lot of symbolic value. The name comes from the Hispano Aviación HA-200 Saeta, which was the first jet-powered plane designed and built by Spanish industry in the 1950s. It was meant to be an advanced trainer and a light air-to-ground assault plane. Spain wants to connect its aviation history with a modern training platform by giving its next-generation trainer this moniker.

Japan’s Cabinet on December 25, 2025 approved a record defense budget exceeding ¥9 trillion ($58 billion) for fiscal year 2026, marking a 9.4% year-on-year increase as Tokyo accelerates a five-year military buildup amid heightened regional tensions.

The package, which takes effect in April 2026, reflects Japan’s effort to rapidly expand capabilities rather than rely solely on long-term domestic development.

Within the total, ¥100 billion ($640 million) has been specifically allocated to coastal defense, a segment that Japanese officials describe as increasingly exposed given advances in missile, naval, and unmanned technologies in the region.

The allocation signals a prioritization of near-term readiness over gradual force modernization.

TUSAŞ Exports Hürjet to Spain, a first for NATO and EU Turdef
Türkiye’s Defence Industry President Haluk Görgün has formally announced the export of the HÜRJET jet trainer via social media, confirming a landmark development for the country’s defence industry. With this agreement, Türkiye has, for the first time, secured the sale of an aircraft to a country that is both a European Union and NATO member.

Under the agreement, HÜRJET has been selected by the Spanish Air and Space Force as part of a 30-aircraft procurement package. The programme carries a total project value of €2.6 billion, with deliveries planned to begin in 2028.

The contract goes well beyond the sale of aircraft alone. It encompasses an integrated advanced pilot training architecture, including ground-based simulation and training systems, a comprehensive maintenance and sustainment infrastructure, and long-term operational support elements. In this respect, the HÜRJET programme represents a high value-added, multi-dimensional defence export rather than a conventional platform sale.
