During ongoing trials of aircraft carrier LIAONING in the South China Sea, a Chinese warship (rmks: reportedly an LST landing ship) stopped US Navy cruiser COWPENS from getting too close … placing itself deliberately in its course, enforcing an “emergency stop” … media claim “near collision”, but at the same time give closest point of approach as 500 yds.
(rmks: happened in international waters but possibly within danger areas declared by China off Hainan for LIAONING trials; COWPENS most probably deployed to “closely” monitor these trials)
