Im Irak haben sich offenbar 40.000 Sunniten den schiitischen Milizen angeschlossen. Diese Entwicklung ist nicht grundsätzlich neu, da die zurückeroberten Gebiete in Anbar bislang stets wieder an sunnitische Stämme übergeben wurden. Neu ist dagegen dass Sunniten in die schiitischen Milizen integriert werden sollen, was die allgemeine Akzeptanz dieser Kräfte weiter stärken soll.

Die irakische Armee könnte hiermit möglicherweise sukzessive ersetzt werden.
