THE German defence minister has raised the prospect of all armed forces in the European Union, including those of Britain, being put under the control of the European parliament in Brussels.

“There is no issue, no step, along the path of EU military integration that would be unthinkable for Germany to take,”

Last week’s document, circulated in the German defence ministry and among senior military officers, goes much further. It says a unified European “parliamentary army” ought to be established.

It also says the army must “act independently of the United States” and develop “regional and global interests”. This means it will operate outside the borders of the EU as an international peacekeeping or enforcement body.
