Slovenia will acquire and build the Patria 8 x 8 Armoured Modular Vehicle (AMV), according to the Finnish company.
Patria said the selection has been made and contract negotiations are to start soon.
The Slovenian Army is expected to place a contract for a total of 136 AMVs in four different versions, with deliveries to start in 2007 and run until 2011.
So far no firm details of the variants have been released but they will include an infantry fighting vehicle armed with a 30 mm cannon, mounted externally or in a turret, together with a 7.62 mm machine gun and 120 mm mortar-armed version.
Competition for the contract was reported to be fierce. Slovenia has built Steyr-Daimler-Puch Pandur vehicles for several years with 72 vehicles delivered and the Austrian company had hoped to follow this with an additional 8 x 8 contract.
