(Source: BAE Systems; issues Sept. 14, 2004)

BAE Systems Avionics Group and Kaman Aerospace Corporation have begun cooperation to provide a low-cost, high-capability intermediate maritime helicopter package based on Kaman's SH-2G Super Seasprite and BAE Systems' mission system and sensor suite.

Initial efforts will be focussed on NATO interoperable communications and navigation systems, autonomous self-protection suites, sensor and target acquisition packages that will enhance situational awareness, as well as a range of anti-submarine and anti-surface weapons. The resulting aircraft will provide the worldwide Naval Aviation community with the ideal combination of proven systems and proven aircraft.

Jim Field, BAE Systems' Head of Campaign Battlefield Systems, said, "The cooperation between BAE Systems Avionics Group and Kaman Aerospace Corporation provides an excellent opportunity for us both to provide a proven maritime platform with tested avionics systems."

BAE Systems has major operations across five continents and customers in some 130 countries. The company has 100,000 people and generates annual sales of approximately £12 billion through its wholly-owned and joint venture operations.

BAE Systems Avionics is one of Europe's leading avionics companies, and the UK's foremost supplier of electronic systems for military platforms in the air, at sea and on land. With its head office at Basildon in the UK, the Avionics organisation has major sites in southern England and Scotland. The Group employs 4,900 people.

Zitat:Cobham to cut 140 jobs

Cobham, a leading supplier of parts to the Apache helicopter, says that a delay in the delivery of the second tranche of 236 Eurofighters, caused by the Government's technical demands, contributed to its plans to cut 140 staff in its fuel systems division.

Allan Cook, chief executive, said the delay was partly to blame, but added that the defence and aerospace group needed to address its cost base.

Cobham reported a record first half order intake of £528m and posted an 11pc rise in pre-tax profits to £51.8m for the half on revenue 20pc higher at £478m. The shares slipped 74p to £13.78.
