Iraq has requested the lease of six Boeing AH-64 Apache attack helicopters from the United States, to be followed by the sale of a further 24 more, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) disclosed on 27 January.
Two separate Foreign Military Sale notifications issued to Congress on the same day revealed that Iraq is looking to lease six of the Apache helicopters for USD1.37 billion, in preparation for a USD4.8 billion sale of 24 of the latest-variant AH-64E helicopters.
