SINGAPORE, March 16 (Xinhuanet) -- Singapore has signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) to join the US-led multi-nation project to develop the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), according to a statement by Singapore's Ministry of Defense on Tuesday.

The LOA came after Singapore and the United States signed a Letter of Intent in February last year, which laid down the broad principles for the Security Cooperation Participant (SCP) arrangement.

"Singapore will have insights into the JSF's development progress and be able to conduct studies for integration of Singapore's requirements into the JSF," the ministry said.

Singapore, the only Asian country to sign a SCP Letter of Offerand Acceptance for the project, can also request early purchase ofthe JSF for delivery from 2012 onwards.

The JSF, believed to be the most advanced stealth strike fighter of the next generation, will be capable of air defense andground attack missions, and boasts enhanced combat survivability and cheaper maintenance. Enditem
