Several analysts suggest that moves by North Korea, Iran may prompt Turkey to go nuclear, although Ankara denies it has such plans

WASHINGTON - Turkish Daily News
As North Korea's atomic bomb test shook global security dynamics and raised fears over the fate of the Cold War-era Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), many Western analysts and media reports now count Turkey as a potential candidate for the world's nuclear club despite Ankara's official denials.
The NPT, which opened for signature in 1968 and came into force two years later, has three aims -- halting the spread of nuclear weapons, disarmament by countries with atomic arsenals and guaranteeing the right to peaceful nuclear technology.
