Zitat:JOHANNESBURG, Aug. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- The Namibian government said on Monday it will dispatch more than 1,500 troops to serve with a UN peacekeeping force in Liberia.

The Foreign Ministry said in Windhoek, capital of Namibia, that the offer "was made against the background of the government's concern for the situation that has been deteriorating in Liberia."
Deputy Permanent Secretary Hinyangerwa Asheeke said, "We thought we could make a gesture to help addressing this serious situation."
However, he did not specify when the two battalions of troops will be ordered to go to Liberia.
The UN Security Council passed US-sponsored Resolution 1497 on Aug. 1 for the formation of an international peacekeeping force inLiberia.
The resolution called for formation of a "multinational force" to enforce a June 17 ceasefire agreement signed by government forces and two rebel groups seeking to overthrow president CharlesTaylor, who quit office Monday and handed power over to his deputy Moses Blah. Enditem
