Armed Forces Air Fleet Overhaul Planned

TEHRAN, Jan. 23--A high-level board has been assigned with the task of overhauling the Armed Forces’ air fleet by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in a session attended by top officials.
The decision to set up the board followed two recent fatal accidents involving military planes, ISNA quoted representative of the Armed Forces Headquarters for parliamentary affairs, General Alireza Afshar, as saying on Monday.
“According to the international Siberia press, Iran’s per capita defense expenditure is $77 which amount to 5 percent of the US per capita defense budget and is the lowest among regional countries,“ Afshar said, noting that the Iranian defense forces are fully ready to defend the country and uphold its sovereignty.
Iran has witnessed two of its worst air disasters in less than a month.

HESA to enhance nation’s fleet by 71 more birds

TEHRAN, Jan. 23 (MNA) -– HESA (Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industries Company) plans to manufacture 58 drones named Ababil, 10 flying boats and three Iran-140 aircrafts for the next Iranian year (beginning March 21, 2006).

The Ababil drones require no production assembly unit and 13 are to be exported, compared to 20 sent abroad this year.
