An Espanol-only release from the Spanish government that was translated by defense-aerospace.com appears to indicate that Germany will transfer full ownership of 108 Leopard 2A4 tanks to Spain. Contract issues have apparently been pending since 1995 re: the transfer of the 108 Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks, which now serve with Spanish Army units. [...]
In 1998, the Spanish government agreed to buy 219 top of the line Leopard 2 tanks, 16 recovery tanks (CREC) and 4 training vehicles. The Leopard 2A6E is a new-built derivative of the most advanced tank in the Leopard line (Leopard 2A6), with additional armor. [...]
A total price of EUR 16.9 million has now been agreed for the 108 tanks, to be paid by June 2016 with no interest charges. When payment is completed, full ownership of the tanks will be transferred to Spain with no additional cost. [...]
