Zitat:HMAS Canberra Decommissioning Year
In November 2005 HMAS CANBERRA will decommission after proudly serving Australia for 24 years. This will indeed be a sad but special occasion and it is my goal to make the events around the decommissioning fitting for a ship with such proud heritage.
CANBERRA will remain fully operational right to the end of her commission and she will be involved in several international exercises that will take her to a number of overseas destinations. The current plan has the ship visiting Japan, Korea, China, Singapore, Malaysia and Guam, with visits also planned for Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Geraldton and Albany.
Planning for many of the decommissioning events is well advanced, with one of the major events being the final Freedom of Entry march in Canberra City planned for 23rd July when the ship is alongside in Sydney. Other significant events include the Decommissioning Ball to be held on November 5th and the Decommissioning Ceremony which will be held at HMAS STIRLING on 10th November.
This website will allow the family and friends of HMAS CANBERRA to follow our journey to decommissioning and to join us, as we conduct a number of memorable and special events throughout this special year.
