RUSSIA DELAYS NUKE SHIPMENT TO IRAN

MOSCOW [MENL] -- Russia has delayed a shipment of nuclear fuel to Iran.

Officials said the Russian Atomic Energy Agency has decided to postpone the first shipment of nuclear fuel for the Bushehr nuclear reactor. In February 2005, Iran and Russia signed an agreement for the delivery of nuclear fuel and the first shipment had been expected to arrive by June.

The date for the first shipment of the nuclear fuel has not been determined, officials said. They said the delay was based on technical rather than political considerations.

"We're talking about a delay of several months," an official said. "I don't think it will significantly set back the schedule of the operation of the reactor."
