Rumsfeld Accuses Turkey of not Allowing Deployment from North
US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld said that he is upset that the US could not enter Iraq from north namely from Turkey during the Iraq war and added that fomented the resistance to grow in the aftermath of the occupation.
Speaking on the Fox News Sunday program Rumsfeld said that if the US had been allowed to enter Iraq from the north, many of Saddam Hussein and the Baath supporters in the region could have been captured or killed. He continued that entering from south gave many insurgents the opportunity to sneak out from the north.
The Turkish parliament had disapproved the deployment motion on 1 March 2003, therefore, disallowing American troops entry to Iraq from Turkey.
