Russia will shortly launch two state-of-the-art Iranian spy satellites enabling Teheran to closely monitor military movements in Israel, The Report has learned. Israeli officials, who refused to confirm or deny the report, expressed grave concern at Iran's growing strategic capabilities.
Russia will launch two satellites, Mesbah and Sinah-1, from the Pletetsk site in the far north of the country between April and June. On January 24, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov signed a directive authorizing his Defense Ministry to launch the satellites aboard Russian-built Kosmos-3M rockets. The satellites will be the first of their kind for Iran, and, Israeli experts say, will constitute a major strategic upgrade for the Iranian military. "If the photographic resolution provided by the satellite is high, the Iranians could gather strategic intelligence that could help them considerably in a future attack on the state of Israel," former Mossad chief Danny Yatom told The Report.
