Zitat:Yemen to buy $150 million Russian KA-52 choppers
The Vedomosti newspaper reports that Ka-52 [Alligator] helicopters are to be sent to Yemen. The newspaper reports that the consignment will consist of 12 military helicopters worth a total of 150m dollars. Konstantin Makiyenko, the deputy director of the Centre for the Analysis of Strategy and Technology, told Ekho Moskvy that the contract was very important for the Russian arms industry.
“In financial terms it is not the largest contract, but for the whole Ka-52 programme it is important, if it goes ahead, because it will be the first export order of this type and it will effectively reinvigorate and launch the Ka-52 programme”, Konstantin Makiyenko was quoted as saying.
It is a new generation two-seater attack helicopter based on the Ka-50. It differs from the Ka-50 in that it has much more modern onboard equipment. In this sense the Ka-52 meets high international standards.
The Russian army has not bought any Ka-52 helicopters. It has been buying Ka-50 helicopters. If Russia begins production of new generation helicopters, this is probably significant.
