USS O’Bannon Joins Israeli, Turkish Navies in Search and Rescue Exercise

HAIFA, Israel (NNS) -- Approximately 400 U.S. Sailors from USS O’Bannon (DD 987) and a P-3C Orion detachment based out of Sigonella, Italy, will participate in an annually-scheduled exercise with the navies of Israel and Turkey.

The exercise, Jan. 9-13, will be the seventh combined search and rescue exercise of this nature and will take place in international waters off the Israeli coast.

Commander, U.S. 6th Fleet, Vice Adm. Harry Ulrich cited the importance of these theater security exercises.

“This type of exercise is invaluable toward fostering mutual commitments to regional stability, advancing multinational interoperability and deterring potential adversaries,” said Ulrich.
