China and Uzbekistan are expected to sign a contract concerning the sales of a new batch of I176TD large transport aircrafts. The source from the Russian Aviation industry refused to disclose the number of this batch of aircrafts, saying only that Uzbekistan did have some I176TD in stock and they have never been used. The delivery is expected to take place within the coming 15-18 months. Ilyushin Aviation Coplex gave technological supports in this latest deal. I176 includes 76TD and the latest version 76TF. The former uses D30KP/12000kgf engine, while the latter uses PS-90A-76/16000kgf engine. The maximum loading capacity ranges from 50 tons to 60 tons. Judging from the above information, Kanwa believes that the long delivery time suggest that the number of this batch of transport aircrafts should not be too small. Kanwa also predicts that these newly purchased transport aircrafts are directly related to the newly established airborne forces.
A report from Taiwan claims that China was preparing to establish No.16 Airborne Corps. However, Kanwa also believes that with the current number of large transport aircrafts in the Chinese Air Force, this newly established airborne troop shouldn't reach the scale of "corps". Apart from the limited number of transport aircrafts, the Chinese airborne troops do not have modern-standard fast-delivery vehicles or armored weapon systems. However, within the coming 5 years, China may very likely establish new mechanized airborne combat units. Russian media also confirmed the above source, saying that China would very soon sign the contract of importing 20 II78TD heavy-duty transport aircrafts. In addition, the Chinese official newspapers denied the report that China was establishing the No.16 Airborne Corps.
