Putin Determined to Improve Bilateral Relations

Russian President Vladimir Putin said they are determined to improve bilateral relations with Turkey.

As the first Russian president to visit Turkey in 32 years, Putin said yesterday his visit will open new doors in Turkish-Russian relations. Putin arrived in Ankara with his wife, Lyudmila Alexandrovna Putin, and attended a dinner last night hosted by Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer. The Russian President said the important relationship between Turkey and Russia is bound by commercial, economic and political ties and committed to further efforts to making the relationship even better.

Sezer described the visit as a milestone in furthering the relationship into a multidimensional partnership. He emphasized the similarities between the two countries' approaches to international and regional issues. The Turkish President underlined the importance Turkey places on improving relations in every field. In a subtle criticism of unilateral action by the US, Sezer said: "The new world order should be formed with international cooperation and principles to monitor the common interests of humanitarian and international laws. Therefore, we believe that the central position of the United Nations, which has the authority to act on behalf of the international community, should be protected and strengthened."

Putin will begin his official meetings today with a visit to Anitkabir, the mausoleum of the founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. The Russian President will also be meeting with Speaker of the Parliament Bulent Arinc, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul.
Meint ihr dass die Annäherung zwischen Russland und Türkei nicht was besonderes hat?
