34 More Police Die in Iraq
34 Iraqi National Guardsmen have been killed in Iraq as outbreaks of violence remain uncontrollable.
22 security officials were killed in the attacks on three police stations in the Al-Anbar region west of the capital city of Bagdat (Baghdad). 12 Iraqi National Guardsmen, kidnapped by insurgents disguised as police officers in Necef (Najaf), were also killed. The Iraqi administration has declared a two-month state of emergency following yesterday's incidents in which 50 people were killed. Fallujah has been under American occupation for some time, but violence there continues following heavy attacks on the area launched by the US military on November 6th.
Iraqi police officers say the insurgents attacked two police stations with explosives in Haditha near Baghdad killing 16 National Guardsmen. Officials indicate that six people were killed in clashes between police and insurgents at a police station in Haqlaniyah. Abu Musab Al-Zarkawi's organization, which is linked to Al-Qaeda, has claimed responsibility for the attacks in these two towns. A vehicle carrying 12 police officers back to the Latifiyah region in Southern Najaf was reportedly hijacked by individuals dressed like police and its passengers were killed. Iraqi national guardsmen have frequently been attacked by insurgents in Iraq for cooperating with US occupying forces. Meanwhile, two other people were reportedly killed in Baghdad in a bomb attack near the home of the Minister of Finance, Adil Abdul Mehdi. Abdul Mehdi was reportedly not wounded in the attacks.
