AMMAN [MENL] -- Jordan's air force could decide on the procurement of its first indigenous unmanned air vehicle in 2005.
Industry sources said the kingdom's air force has been examining a range of UAVs produced by Jordanian companies. The sources said a procurement decision was expected in 2005.
Jordan Aerospace Industries has signed a partnership agreement with the state-owned King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau to jointly produce reconnaissance UAVs and target drones. The agreement, announced in August, appeared to place the consortium as a frontrunner in any Jordanian UAV competition.
JAI has offered three UAVs to the Jordanian Air Force, all of them still in the development stage. They are the portable Jordan Silent Eye UAV system, the Jordanian Falcon, with a range of 50 kilometers, and the Jordan Arrow aerial target system.
