ATHENS [MENL] -- Greece has lost two U.S.-origin F-16 multi-role fighters in what was believed to have been a crash during a training exercise.
Most or all of the four Hellenic Air Force crew members were said to have been killed in the crash on Thursday, officials said. They said three military helicopters -- were searching for the bodies as well as debris from both jets.
The crash took place in the mountains of central Greece, officials said. They said the F-16s were on a routine training mission from Larissa air force base when they disappeared from the radar screen over Pilio.
Officials said the area over Pilio contained low visibility. They said they did not know whether the two F-16s collided or crashed separately.
