Israel Floats Settlement As Hospital Plan

JERUSALEM (AP) - Israel has proposed leaving a Gaza settlement intact to be used as a hospital after an Israeli pullout, and wants to sell an industrial zone on the edge of the coastal strip to international bodies, Israeli officials said.
Israel and the World Bank concluded a round of discussions about the planned pullout on Sunday, the officials said on condition of anonymity.

US Army Engineers to carry out $30m project at IAF bases

Most of the financing for the project is from US military aid to Israel.

The “Yediot Ahronot” Hebrew daily reports that the US Army Corps of Engineers will soon begin construction projects at Israel Air Force bases, at a cost of $30 million. Twelve projects at seven Air Force bases are involved. The projects include air control towers, airplane hangars, and perimeter fences.
Real Estate Appraisers Association in Israel chairman Ran Wiernik said that US construction company Zander was in charge of direct implementation of the work. Zander won a tender, and will function as chief contractor for the project. Zander is cooperating with two Israeli companies, which will carry out part of the work. Design of the projects is taking place solely in Israel, and the US Army Corps of Engineers will oversee the work.
