NICOSIA [MENL] -- Iran has determined that Israel was unlikely to launch a strike against the nuclear facilities of the Islamic republic.
Iranian officials said the intelligence community has determined a low probability that Israel will strike Iran's nuclear sites over the next year. They cited an Israeli assessment that Iran would be unable to achieve nuclear weapons capability until at least 2007 and that the Jewish state lacks the support of the international community, particularly the United States.
"There is a slight prospect that Israel will attack us," Iranian Intelligence Minister Ali Yunesi said. "Still, Iran has thought of the measures needed to repulse all attacks."
On Tuesday, the London-based Telegraph reported that Iran has resumed the construction and testing of components capable of producing fissile mate rial for nuclear weapons. The newspaper reported that Iran, in violation of an agreement with the European Union, has broken the seals on nuclear equipment monitored by the IAEA.
