Rome, June 26, IRNA -- Italian Minister of Infrastructure and
Transportation Pietro Lunardi said here Saturday that expansion of
ties with Iran in all fields is among priorities of Italy`s foreign
policy.
Talking to IRNA in an exclusive interview, he added the Italian
government and Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi in particular attach
high significance to promotion of Tehran-Rome relations especially
in economic and industrial fields.
The minister, due in Iran on Sunday, noted that Italy believes
Iran enjoys a very appropriate strategic situation and hoped the
sides would further attempt to boost bilateral cooperation due to
Iran`s important role in the region.

Hamedan, June 26, IRNA -- Canadian Ambassador to Iran Philip McKinon
said here Saturday that the ground has been prepared for expansion of
trade ties between the two countries.
In a meeting with Hamedan province officials, McKinon termed
the participation of Iranian food importers and exporters in Montreal
exhibition as a way of promoting trade cooperation between Iran and
Canada.
He also pointed to the close relations between the chambers of
commerce of the two countries and called on the Iranian private
sector to take part actively in Canadian exhibitions in order to
speed up the process of trade cooperation between the two countries.
"The province of Hamedan is active in agricultural field.
Therefore, the province should make use of achievements and
technologies of the University of Saskatchewan province in Canada to
promote its potentials", McKinon stressed.
Referring to the community of Iranians living or studying in
Canada, he reiterated that some 300,000 Iranian citizens residing in
Canada could server as an appropriate bridge for broadening of
Tehran-Ottawa relations.

Zitat:Iran seizes 200 tons of drugs annually

Ahvaz, Khuzestan prov, June 26, IRNA -- Reza Saremi, Advisor to
Secretary-General of Iran Drug Control Headquarters (IDCH) said here
Saturday that 200 tons of drugs are seized in Iran annually.
Addressing a one-day conference on the fight against drug abuse,
he added a definite amount of the seized drugs including opium, heroin
nd hashish are handed over to authorities and the rest are destroyed.
Iran has lost 3,350 men over the past 25 years in its anti-drug
campaign, he noted, adding the country allocated 300 billion rials to
preventive measures, treatment, research and promotion of
non-governmental institutions active in the campaign.
