MILGEM, a national shipbuilding project initiated by the Undersecretariat for the Defense Industry (SSM) to satisfy the naval command's need for 12 submarine defense and patrol vessels solely through the efforts of local contractors, was unveiled on Thursday.
Naval Forces Commander Adm. Ozden Ornek, SSM chief Murat Bayar, and Scientific and Technical Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) Deputy Director Nuket Yetis as well as industrialists and university representatives attended the ceremony announcing the project.
