Iran Is a Strategic Regional Country: Kuwaiti Prime Minister

KUWAIT (IRNA) -- Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser as-Sabah al-Ahmad said here Saturday that Iran is a strategic country in the region and stressed expansion of the ties with Tehran.

Speaking at fringes of the opening ceremonies of the two-day seminar 'Region and Future', the Kuwaiti prime minister told reporters that relations between Iran and Kuwait are cordial.

"Tehran has an important role in preserving the peace and security in the region." Tehran also plays a vital role in the future of Iraq and regional developments, he added.

Iran, Afghanistan discuss expansion of ties

Kabul, May 17, IRNA -- Secretary of Iran`s Supreme Council of
Cultural Revolution Ahmad Ahmadi discussed expansion of cultural
ties with the Afghan Minister of Higher Education Faez Mohammad
Sharif here Sunday.
Ahmadi presented 20 titles of books compiled by Afghanistan
university professors in Iran to the minister based on an agreement
already signed by the two countries.
He also voiced the readiness of the Center for Compiling
University Books in Humanities (SAMT,) which he leads, to offer
training to 15 of the staff members of Afghanistan`s ministry of
higher education in different skills related to compiling and
publishing books.
Sharif appreciated Iran`s cooperation with his country in
higher education subjects and stressed the need for its
continuation.

Iran, Syria to boost academic cooperation

A visiting Iranian delegation discussed with Syrian Higher Education Minister Hani Murtada here Sunday ways to boost academic cooperation between the two countries` universities in scientific and medical fields, said an official at the Iranian embassy here.
The 100-member delegation headed by Jamal Rezaei, advisor
to minister of health, also discussed exchange of medical
and health experiences between the two countries, said Hossein
Kashani, a counselor at the Iranian embassy.
The Iranian side to the meeting suggested that joint cultural
weeks be held in Iran and Syria to further activate academic
relations between universities of the two countries and to acquaint

Iran, Ireland to cooperate in technical, educational areas

Tehran, May 17, IRNA -- Minister of Sciences, Research and Technology
Ja`afar Towfiqi referred to scientific and academic cooperation
between Iran and Ireland as the positive point in mutual relations.
He made the remark in a meeting with a visiting Irish delegation
comprised of scientific and trade figures here Monday.
He noted that cooperation between the two countries on exchange of
technological know-how and teacher training will start soon.
Towfiqi also singled out formation of a joint scientific
committee, dispatching students to Ireland for taking part in training
courses and carrying out common IT courses as other programs between
the two countries for future cooperation.

Kharrazi arrives in Moscow

Moscow, May 17, IRNA -- Iran`s Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi arrived
here Sunday night to meet with high-ranking Russian officials.
Kharrazi, heading a delegation, was welcomed at Moscow airport by
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alexiev, other officials of
the Ministry as well as Iran`s ambassador to Russia, and Iranian
diplomats at the Embassy.
Alexiev stressed the need for continued bilateral cooperation and
termed exchange of visits by the two countries` senior officials as a
step toward expansion of bilateral cooperation.
He said regional and international issues entail certain
responsibilities for both countries.
Iran and Russia should undoubtedly show appropriate reactions
to the events going on around them based on their common viewpoints
and stance, the Russian official said.
He expressed hope that during Kharrazi`s stay here, the sides
would discuss bilateral and international issues as well as those
which would help further consolidation of ties.
Kharrazi, for his part, expressed satisfaction over his visit to
Moscow and noted that good bilateral relations involve exchange of
