IMI Offers Enhanced Delilah Missile for Naval Attack Missions - Aviation Week
Israel Military Industries (IMI) is offering a surface attack version of its Delilah cruise missile to equip helicopters and surface ships. The airborne version of the missile is currently operational on fighter aircraft such as the F-16. With a range of 250 km, it provides a unique
capability for precision attack on time-sensitive targets that are only briefly exposed, such as air defense radars or missile launchers.
Delilah can ingress through enemy territory at rapid cruise speed to reach the target area while avoiding threats and maximizing surprise. If the missile cannot spot the target on its first pass over the designated location-perhaps due to weather or target concealment-it will loiter, waiting for it to show up.
Delilah tracks targets via its imaging infrared seeker and other sensors, and can also transmit the target location and image back to the controller for verification. When the target is identified and operators are assured that the scene is clear from potential hazards and the possibility of collateral damage, the missile is cleared to attack. In its ter-
minal phase Delilah attacks at speeds as high as Mach 0.80. It is equipped with a relatively small warhead with combined penetration capability and fragmentation effect, optimized for the destruction of soft targets and light armor-typically missile launchers, command, control and communications vehicles and SAM systems.
Delilah's accuracy also makes it suitable for crippling critical elements on ships, such as missiles, radars, sensors, command centers or sensitive storage areas.
A boosted version can be deployed on helicopters, fired from surface launchers, or stored and launched from a launcher/container pack on a ship's deck. It is being evaluated by the U.S Navy for operation with SH-60B Seahawk ASW helicopters as a possible replacement for Penguin anti-ship missiles - Tamir Eshel
----------------------------------------------
- I wonder if the RSN`s new naval helicopters could be armed with these since the USN seems to be looking for a replacement for the Penguin. We have excellent ties with Israel. With a range of 250 km, it goes further than the Harpoons or Exocets.
- I wonder if the Delilah could replace our Gabriels. It seems excellent for littoral conditions
