Türkiye Advances ALTAY Programme with BATU Engine Milestone TurDef
Türkiye has reached a technical milestone in the ALTAY main battle tank programme with the completion of factory acceptance tests for the indigenous BATU engine.
BATU is a 27.3-litre V12 diesel engine designed to deliver high torque under demanding battlefield conditions, including sustained operation in extreme temperatures and harsh environments.
Attention now turns to the qualification and validation of the transmission system, a critical phase that will determine overall drivetrain performance and reliability. Engine–transmission integration remains one of the most complex aspects of modern main battle tank development and is essential before the system can be cleared for serial production.
